William "Bill" Roberts

 William "Bill" Roberts of Princetown, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 23rd 2020 at The Fulton Center for Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Schenectady NY on Feb 8th 1938 to the late Emrys and Charlotte Roberts.   He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. He married his wife Gloria on June 2, 1962 in Albany, NY.  Bill and Gloria lived in Coldbrook Estates in Rotterdam.  He became a firefighter for the Carman Fire Department Dist. 3, where he very much enjoyed helping others, saving lives, learning all the new fire fighting techniques, driving the fire trucks, and getting to know his fellow fire fighters.  Bill started working at Conley Brothers Dairy with his father.  He then went to the Modern Welding School where he earned a journeyman's rating and became a steal worker at GE.  He has military welding certifications.  He held a rank among co-workers.  He was very talented in what he did there and won numerous awards.  He was part of the GE Quarter Century Club, and a very active member of the GE Union IUE Local 301.  He enjoyed welding and working with steal where he worked for thirty-five years.  After retiring from GE, he went on to work at Shalmont Central Schools in the buildings and maintenance department, where he worked with his son Bill Jr.  His hobbies include; welding at home form friends, going up North camping with the family, boating and fishing with his brother-in-law George "Richy" Lockwood.  He also enjoyed classic cars and going to car shows.  He also enjoyed country music and a good Western movie, his favorite actor was John Wayne.   

Bill was a loving husband and father to his wife Gloria, and his three children Billy, John, and Davy.   He was very close with his cousin Alex "Skip" Rotter.  He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorty Peternell, Marion Roberts, Helen Martin, and Isabel "Tootsie" Rotter.

A Celebration of Bill's life will be held at New Life Ministries 1858 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304 on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 from 11:00am-12:00 with a service to begin at 12:00 noon.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
