Sally Lachanski, 91 of Devendorf Rd., passed away peacefully at home, after a long illness, on Thursday, January 25, 2018 with her family by her side.
Born is Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Gladys Zelazny. Sally resided in Rotterdam for over sixty years. She was employed by GE for over ten years then the State of New York for twenty-one years in the Civil Service Dept. before retiring. She was a member of the Church of St. Adalbert, St. Adalbert Altar Rosary Society and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Seniors. Sally was a very giving person, and a great cook. She loved camping in Sacandaga. She enjoyed her two bowling leagues, and couldn't wait until Friday to have her poker friends over for cards and snacks. Sally loved going to Las Vegas and Atlantic City on her bus trips.
She was predeceased by her husband, Chester Lachanski, whom she married on October 28, 1951 in Schenectady, and who passed away in 2001, daughter, Linda Lachanski, who passed away in 1962 at nine years old from cerebral palsy, and brothers, Steve and Edward Zelazny.
Sally is survived by her son, Michael Lachanski (Maryanne McCutcheon) of Rotterdam, and daughter Karen (Bill) Potenza of Port St. Lucie, FL., grandchildren, Stephen (Cara) Lachanski, and Lisa (Timothy) Lachanski of Rotterdam. Sally also had two wonderful great-grandchildren, Parker Lachanski and Sophia Barnett. She is also survived by her brothers, John and Richard Zelazny.
Calling hours will be held from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, at the Church of St. Adalbert, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Sally's name may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
