Richard Piatkowski Obituary


Richard F. Piatkowski, 87, of Lomasney Ave., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Ellis Hospital with his loving family by his side.  Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Anthony and Frances Piatkowski.  A graduate of Nott Terrace High School, Richard served honorably as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1951-1953.  He was employed at Matthew Bender in Albany, as a System Program Director with over thirty-five years of service.  He was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church, and a member of St. Joseph's A.C. Club for over fifty years where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends.  Richard was a devoted husband, and father, who enjoyed quiet time with his wife Rose, and loved to fish and golf with his twin sons.  Richard enjoyed holiday gatherings with his extended family.  His humor and warmth were a mainstay of each gathering and brought joy to all.
Richard was the beloved husband of Rose Marie Coppola Piatkowski, whom he married on April 28, 1956 at St. Anthony's Church, loving father of his twin sons, Gary Piatkowski, and the late Gregg Piatkowski, father-in-law of Angela Rizzo-Piatkowski, brother of the late Leonard Piatkowski, Mary (Rudy) Doman, Florence (Ed) Pajak, and Bernice (Robert Ogonowski, brother-in-law of Frances Piatkowski, Angelina (Thomas) Kosinski, Antoinette (late Donald) Olsen, and the late Andy (Patricia) Coppola.  He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.  
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers of Home Instead Senior Care for their dedication in making Richard comfortable in their care of him.  They would especially like to thank Candice, Philistea, Rosie and Sheila.

Calling hours will be held on Monday evening January 22, from 5-7 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 23, 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church with Rev. Richard Carlino officiating, a relative of the Piatkowski family.  Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
