Richard Goncerz, 75, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born on November 27, 1950, in Augustow, Poland, the son of Branislav and Florence Goncerz. He later made his home in New York, where he graduated from Linton High School in Schenectady. In April of 1970, Richard proudly enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably until his discharge in October of 1976.
Richard dedicated 40 years of his life to General Electric, where he worked as a Generator Winder. He was known for his strong work ethic, skill, and pride in a job well done.
He found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, including time spent at the family camp on Sacandaga, fishing, and building with his hands. A talented builder, Richard was always willing to help anyone in need. He could often be found talking with neighbors, sharing stories, or inviting others to spend time at camp. Richard took great pleasure in hosting others, opening his home and camp to family, friends, and neighbors, and making everyone feel welcome.
Above all else, Richard’s greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Teresa; his three children, Michael, Melissa, and Steve (Erin); and his cherished grandchildren, Scarlett, Blake, and Liam. He was survived by his mother, Florence, at the age of 99. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Drezek (Frank).
Richard will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the steady presence he was to all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the DeLegge Funeral Home, followed by interment in St. Adalbert Cemetery.
Those who wish to remember Richard in a special way may make a contribution to the Animal protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave, Schenectady, NY 12302 or send flowers to the family.
