Marion Ritter, 96, of Schenectady, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep Oct. 27, 2025 at Kingsway Arms in Schenectady.
Born May 11, 1929 and raised in Brooklyn, she was daughter of Gudrun and Sverre Bergland of Norway. Marion was predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul Henry Ritter whom she married Aug 28, 1948 in Brooklyn. She was predeceased by her dear sister, Sylvia Greve who is survived by her husband William Greve. She is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law; Karen and Jim Boyd and Diane and James O'Brien as well as five grandchildren; James Boyd, Steven (Erin) Boyd, Kaitlin (Eddie) Schneider, Erin (Skylur Jameson) O’Brien, and Thomas O’Brien. She was blessed with six great grandchildren: Nicholas, Ashley, Samantha, Ryan, Maeve, and Caden. She was also a cherished aunt to John (Donna) Greve, Margie (John Milward) Greve, Janet (Dan) Quinn and Kathy (Ed) Camp.
Marion stayed home with her children, always providing a home baked treat after school. She was also a caregiver for her wheelchair bound mother-in-law, a responsibility she shared with her sister-in-law
Lauretta Ritter and brother-in-law Eric Ritter. Marion loved planning backyard barbeques, picnics and local beach escapes with family and friends.
She went back into the work force and was a loyal employee of the Carl Co. in Schenectady for twenty years working in Human Resources. When they closed, she worked for MVP. She retired after six years of service.
Marion was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady, NY where she was a Sunday School teacher and volunteered her time in the finance office.
The family sends special thanks to ALL of the staff at Kingsway and to Hospice for their attentive care in her last days.
A memorial service at the convenience of the family will follow.
