Joseph Louis McCabe, 47, of Rotterdam, entered the Kingdom of Heaven suddenly at his home on Thursday, November 11, due to a heart attack. Born in Schenectady, Joe was the son of Ann Marie and John Mattarazzo and the late John McCabe. He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, and Hudson Valley Community College. Joe was a Corrections Officer at the Albany County Jail, and a member of the Schenectady County Police Department as a Patrolman for 13 years and a Decorated Detective for 4 years. He was an avid car enthusiast who had a special love of his home, yard and family.
He is survived by his devoted children, Louis and Jenna, his brother John (Kristi) McCabe, he was a loving uncle to his nephews, Kris and John and niece Madi. Left to grieve are his mother-in-law, Adele Rizk, sisters-in-law, and bothers-in-law and extended family, also his special friend Danny Barlette and Rocco Rocca, and all who were touched by his spirit. He was the most kindhearted and giving person to all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at the DeLegge Funeral Home from 3-6 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, November 18, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Church, 1241 State St., Schenectady, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. An Honorable Police interment will follow in Sts. Cyril and Method Cemetery in Rotterdam, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Diane whom he mourned the loss of every day.
