John A. Matarazzo, 88, of Rotterdam, New York entered the kingdom of heaven at Schenectady Center Nursing home surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, October 15th 2024. Born in Schenectady, John was the son of the late Albert Matarazzo and Annmarie Scace. He was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and went on to earn a dual major in electrical engineering and physics at Syracuse University. In the early 1960’s, he worked at Knolls Atomic Power where he was assigned to work at the West Milton Site, now known as the Kenneth A. Kesserling site. John worked on the S3G Naval Reactor where he was responsible for training Naval Personnel and operation of the nuclear reactor. He then went on to be a successful entrepreneur owning the renowned Proctors Theatre in Schenectady in the early 1970’s. In 1974 he bought the Wedgeway Building where he later opened and operated the Grog Shoppe with his devoted wife AnnaMarie. John had the most gentle soul and many were touched by his spirit. He will be sorely missed. He was predeceased by his devoted son Joseph McCabe and his cherished daughter-in-law Diane Rizk McCabe. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anna Marie, son John E. McCabe, and grandchildren, Louis, Jenna, Kristopher, John and Madelyn McCabe.
In accordance with John’s last wishes, there will be a celebration of his life and memorial mass at St. Lukes Church, on Saturday, October 26, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. Rest in peace "Whiskers".
