John Marciniak Sr. Obituary

John E. Marciniak Sr. at the age of 103, passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2024. John was born in Schenectady on September 25th, 1920 to Walter and Sophia Kopa Marciniak. John graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1940. John was married to his high school sweetheart Irene T. Jozefowicz on January 1st, 1942. They met while attending an evening dance class at Cains Castle on Barrett Street in Schenectady. John attended Bentley College in Boston, MA with a love of accounting, in which he was valedictorian in a class of 325 students. He pursued his passion in accounting as he worked for General Electric Company.

On January 5th, 1943 John entered the Army Air Force, as an Airline Technician, John was deployed to various locations across the United States. In May 1945, he was shipped to ETO (European Theater of Operations) in a specialized unit where he had to send B17 and B24 bombers back to the US through India, to the Pacific Theater. On March 12th, 1946, John was officially discharged from the Army Air Force. Throughout his service John received several medals, his medals included American Service, Good Conduct, EAMG Service, World War II Victory and Three Sharp Shooter Metals. Upon an honorable discharge from the service, John went back to work at General Electric as an accountant, till his retirement in November 1982.

John was a startup and lifetime member of P.V.A. of World War II in Schenectady.

John was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening and traveling the world with his wife Irene.

John is predeceased by his loving wife Irene of 73 years, sister Helen Willey and granddaughter Michelle Norek.

John is survived by his children Edith (Richard) Norek of Florida, John E. Marciniak Jr, (Karen) of Rotterdam, grandchildren Michael (Colleen) Norek, Greg (John) Norek, Catherine Norek, and Matthew (Melissa) Marciniak. He also has three great grandchildren, Jessica and Jack Norek and Nicholas Marciniak.

Calling hours will be held at the DeLegge Funeral Home on Saturday, June 15, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Adalbert. Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of St. Adalbert Restoration Fund, 550 Lansing St., Schenectady, NY 12303.
