Jessie Makowski, 90, formerly of Schenectady , NY and currently a resident of Elan Gardens in Clarks Summit, PA passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 with her family at her side.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Makowski in 1988 after 40 years of marriage. Born July 20, 1927 she was the daughter of the late John Zeglen and Anna Kosien Zeglen. Jessie had lived in Schenectady, NY for over 70 years and then moved to Delray Beach, Florida and most recently Scranton, PA., to be near her daughter. Jessie was preceded in death by all of her sisters. Helen Iovino, Mary Drapala, Sophie Zeglen, Sadie Kurowski and Wanda Serowick and brothers Walter , Teddy, Eddie, and Adolph Zeglen. Surviving are her daughter Monica Calpin and her husband William, two step granddaughters, Jennifer Sisto and HollyCalpin , two step great grandchildren, Cavan and Dominic and many nieces and nephews.
She was born in Schenectady and retired from Union College where she was a Maintenance Supervisor. She loved to bake and have parties with her family and friends. She took up polka dancing in her 60’s. She was very hard working but enjoyed spending time in the sun for relaxation. She also enjoyed traveling with trips to Hawaii and England and going on local bus trips. She was always willing to help others and during her younger years spent time helping out at the school and church and was Assistant Leader in the Girl Scouts for 4 years.
Friends may call at DeLegge Funeral home on Friday, May 11 between 10:00 and 11:30 followed by a burial in St. Josephs Cemetery.
