James Stringfellow Obituary

On Thursday, November 5, 2020, James "Fred" Stringfellow, loving husband and father of three, passed away at the age of 80 after a brief illness.  Fred was born on July 4th, 1940 in Manhattan, NY to John Joseph and Mary (LaBrie) Stringfellow.  He graduated from Linton High School in 1958 and joined the Navy, from which he was honorably discharged in 1964.  On April 24, 1965 he married Diane Opanowski.  Together, they had 3 children.  Fred retired from Verizon in 1997.

Fred was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Church and sang in the choir with his wife for 20 years.  He was a lifelong NY Giants fan and enjoyed gathering with family to watch them play.  No matter what the score was, he was quick to point out that it would likely be a "two minute game."  He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and brother John.  He is survived by his wife Diane, his children Andrew, Vickie (Michael Chisholm) and Matthew (April) and grandchildren Nathaniel and Maegan.

The family would like to invite those who wish to attend, his viewing will be at the DeLegge Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:30AM on Wednesday, November 11th, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Adalbert at 11:00AM. Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery.  In lieu of gifts, the family has asked that those who wish to remember Fred in a special way contribute to the Lewy Body Dementia Foundation (www.lbda.org/donate/).
