Ida E. Tondera, 96, peacefully passed away on March 28, 2018, at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on June 23, 1921, in Scotia, New York, to Thomas and Catherine Kwolik, Ida graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1939. She was employed at General Electric in Schenectady. She married the love of her life, John Tondera, in 1947. Ida remained a homemaker while raising her two children, and returned to the workforce with the City of Schenectady for the Tax Department and then for the Schenectady County Library System until her retirement in 1983.
Ida and John were avid polka dancers, attending many local Polish events. She was a voracious reader, fabulous cook and enjoyed crocheting and oil painting. Ida was known for her beautiful smile and positive outlook on life. Selfless, caring and filled with kindness, she loved her family tremendously.
Ida was predeceased by her husband, John, sisters, Nellie Helstowski and Sadie Kwolik, and brother, Edmund Kwolik. Surviving family are son, John (Lori) of Allentown, PA, daughter, Deborah White of Burnt Hills, grandchildren, Chris White (Christopher Marney) of Schenectady, Kate (Michael) Mastrella of Glenville, great-grandchildren, Lily and Owen Mastrella, and several nieces and nephews.
Ida’s family would like to thank the staff at Ellis Hospital C-1 Wing, especially nurses Beth, Martha, Elaine and Carissa, the ER staff, the Hospice staff, especially Kelly, and the residents and staff at Mill View Assisted Living facility for making her stay there truly enjoyable.
