Harold Robert Dickson Obituary

Harold Robert Dickson, lovingly known to everyone as “Chick” or “Chickie,” passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, at the age of 75.

Born on May 22, 1950, in Schenectady, Harold was a lifelong resident who carried himself with independence, humor, and a spirit that could never be confined. He was born to Frances Dickson and was lovingly raised by Mary and Robert Dickson, who helped shape the man he would become.

At just 17 years old, Harold answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served from 1967 to 1970, including overseas service during the Vietnam War. Stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, he worked as a Plumbing and Water Supply Specialist.

During his 2 years and 8 months of honorable active-duty service, Harold was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal in recognition of his dedication and sacrifice.

But beyond his service uniform, Harold’s greatest pride was his family.

He was the devoted father of Gloria, Carra, and Camille, and the beloved father of the late Johnny. He was a proud grandfather to Keila, DC, Leahcima, Amelia, Monae, and Noelani, as well as several great-grandchildren. Among them, he shared a special bond with his great grandson, his “main man,” lovingly known as “Little Chick.”

He is also survived by his siblings Doris Sidoti, Virginia Dickson, Carol Dickson, and Mary Dickson Miller.

Harold was known for being generous, funny, and deeply caring. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He could tell a joke at any moment, pull out a harmonica and play a tune, or amaze you with a magic trick he had learned somewhere along the way. He had a million stories and never hesitated to share them with anyone willing to listen.

He loved fishing with his grandchildren, singing, dancing, and spending time surrounded by family. He adored his dogs, but nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren.

If there is one thing Harold will be remembered for, it is this: He lived life on his own terms.

He did not bend to opinions, trends, or pressure. He believed in being true to yourself no matter what. That lesson, to stand firm in who you are, is the legacy he leaves behind.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Harold’s life on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the DeLegge Funeral Home.

Harold Robert “Chick” Dickson will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
