George & Elsie Salamone

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of George Salamone 95, born March 15, 1931, to Sam and Josephine Salamone in Schenectady, NY and his beloved wife of 73 years Elsie Salamone 95, born December 22, 1931, to James and Mary Cognetti also born in Schenectady, NY.

Mom and Dad (Meme and Poppy) lived a full and accomplished life cherishing every moment they had together leading into their final days. George was an avid outdoorsman, and we believe an animal whisperer. He had a trained Egret named Mable for 10 years in his winter home in Venice, Florida. Mom and Dad spent every weekend and vacation traveling with their camper to the Adirondacks where Dad would spend days stream fishing, and Mom would develop lasting friendships and enjoyed cooking for fellow campers. They were fortunate to enjoy traveling around the world and absorbing the beauty of the cultures they endured.

George was an owner/operator of Grandview Block Co. which was founded by himself and his brother Attilio. They had been hunting for mushrooms deep in the woods and came across an old barn with a concrete block machine inside. The farmer told George and Attilio they could take the block machine home which they did, fixed it up and started Grandview Block in 1945 along with their father Salvatore. Later their brother Frank came home from the war and joined the business completing the family owned business. Elsie was known for her loving heart and huge generosity. She was wholly devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining as much as possible. She loved to crochet blankets and baby sweater sets for friends and neighbors. She loved to travel and meet new people. She was a great friend to those who knew her and the best meme anyone could ask for. She had an impeccable taste for decorating and enjoyed spending the cold winter months in her home in Venice, Florida. George and Elsie sadly leave behind their sons George (Vera) Salamone and Michael (Wendy) Salamone as well as grandchildren Alicia (Brett) Powers, Melissa Salamone, Ashlyn (Chris) Horwedell and Michaela Salamone and several great grandchildren.

George and Elsie are predeceased by their beloved Grandson Ryan Salamone son of Michael Salamone, brothers Frank (Gianna) Salamone and Attilio Salamone. Twin sister Margaret and their parents James and Mary Cognetti and Salvatore and Josephine Salamone.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tidewell Hospice of Venice, Florida and close friend and live in aid Charlette. They made life most comfortable for mom and dad's final journey together. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass which will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, 2126 Rosa Rd., Schenectady, NY 12309.  Entombment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, 27 Glenridge Rd., Glenville, NY 12302. 

Donations may be made in their names to Hospice or St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
