Frank J. Donadio "Frankie", 99 of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2021, at the Stratton VA Hospital. Born on Pleasant St., in Schenectady, on July, 10, 1921, the son of the late Santo and Angelina Donadio.
At 21 years old, Frank enlisted in the Army and fought in the Solomon islands, in the Battle of Bougainville, a major supply and air base for the Japanese where he was severely injured by a mortar shell suffering the loss of his left arm. Frank also took part in the Battle for New Caledonia and the Fiji islands. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific campaign ribbon and one Major Battle Star. After his recovery and return to the states, Frank was still determined to pitch baseball in the Schenectady Twilight Baseball League.
He is predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Edward, Dominick, Gregory Sr., Eugene, and Jackson Donadio, sisters, Carmella Califano, Josephine Muscanell, nephew, Gregory Donadio Jr., and niece, Debbie Miller. Frank is survived by one sister, Angeline "Dolly" Paludi, and his sister-in-law, Theresa Donadio, nephews, Ron (Marguerite) Paludi, Sam (Dawn) Donadio, Frank Califano, Ed (Kathy) Donadio, Gary (Mahassti) Donadio, Gordon, Dominick, Michael (Lori), and Anthony Donadio, nieces, Linda (Dick) Tedisco, Sharon (Mike) Suchocki, Darlene (David) Muscanell, and Jacqueline Donadio. He is also survived by his cherished grandnieces and nephews, Jennifer, Joseph, Daniel, and Allison Paludi, and several other, grandnieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be private with full Military Honors. Interment will be in Sts. Cyril and Method Cemetery.
