Frances S. Sammler

Frances S. Sammler 95, passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on April 9,2018.  Born in Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances Kaniff and was married for 58 years to the late John A. Sammler.  Frances attended schools in Schenectady and was a communicant of St. Marys Parish. 

Frances loved camping with John every summer at DeVoe's near Schuylerville, NY, where acquaintances became life long friends.  She was an avid homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking on the holidays.  Her greatest love was for her family.  She and John adored their grandchildren, frequently taking them on picnics, fishing, and to amusement parks.  Fran and Johnny would fly to Las Vegas on occasion for vacations.  Later in life, she and her sister "Cookie" would travel to Atlantic City for a weekend of fun. 

Frances is survived by her loving daughter Alice J. Ryan of Rotterdam, two grandsons, James Scott Ryan and Todd Mitchel Ryan of Rotterdam, and granddaughter Michele Ann Citone of Niskayuna, 9 great grandchildren Sarah, Natalie, Brittany, Marissa, Angela, Brianna, Michael, Sam and Gabriella.  6 great great grandchildren, Jacob, Ellie, Marley, Arya, Madison, Sophia, and several nieces, nephews, and cousin.

Frances is predeceased by her infant great grandson Brian and her siblings Genevieve Krajewski, Wanda Nolan, John "Sailor" Kaniff, and Josephine "Cookie" Raymond.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m, at the DeLegge Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Carlino officiating.  Interment will follow in Vale Cemetery.    
Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the DeLegge Funeral Home.
