Edward M. Goldman of Schenectady, NY, peacefully passed away on March 16, 2023, just a few days after his 90th birthday. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and their four children: Steve (Suzanne) Goldman, Susan (Les) Scott, Mike (Michelle) Goldman, and Dan Goldman.
Ed was born on March 6, 1933, to Irving and Betty Goldman. He grew up in Brighton Beach, NY, then moved upstate to Accord, NY, at the age of 13, where he helped his dad farm chickens. After graduating from Earlham College in Indiana he served in the Army for two years. Ed met Barbara while they were both working at the famous Mohonk Mountain House resort in the Catskills. They married on November 12th, 1960, and moved to Schenectady in 1967.
Ed was a great dad. He loved the outdoors and would ride his bike everywhere he went. When the kids were younger he took them sailing, camping, hiking, and skiing. As the kids grew older and had families of their own, Ed and Barbara would frequently travel with them on vacation. He especially enjoyed visiting Maine and exploring Acadia National Park.
Ed served the community in many ways: He opened his home to Fresh Air Fund children, he served on the board of the City Mission, he umpired baseball for a variety of leagues, he tutored high school students, and helped people whenever he could.
Ed loved to talk, to debate, and to argue the other side of whatever topic was at hand. He would often stake out controversial positions just to keep the conversation going. Ed was deeply interested in the things of God. He struggled to resolve his personal faith, but finally did put his trust in Jesus. Ed is with Him now.
A private memorial service will be held by his immediate family, and in lieu of flowers, they request that you reach out to someone you love and tell them so.
