Donna Smith Obituary

Donna M. Smith, 72, of Schenectady, N.Y, entered into eternal peace on Monday, October 7, 2024 at home and surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Donna was born in Plattsburg, N.Y, in 1952 to the late Margaret (Perry) and John Hurd. In her younger years, Donna visited and eventually lived in Lake Placid where she began working and enjoying her time with her family and friends. After moving to Schenectady, Donna began her career working with the elderly and devoted herself to raising her two children. In retirement, Donna enjoyed caring for her grandchildren whom she adored. She was an avid fan of the Yankees, never missing watching a game with her grandchildren, and also cheered on her beloved Patriots each season. Donna will be most remembered for her selflessness, courage, and sense of humor. Despite her long battle, Donna could always bring a smile to someone’s face with the taste of her cooking, the crack of a joke, or her words of wisdom. The simplicity she lived was admirable and inspired many to never give up, keep family first and to lean on the Lord. Donna will be missed dearly but the memories and light she left will be cherished by those who loved her, forever.

Donna was survived by her children, Barbara (Tom) Miller and Donald (Amy) Smith of Schenectady; her loving grandchildren, Justin (Brooke), Christopher, and Faith Miller and Andrew, Ryan (Heather), and Donavin Smith, all of Schenectady and several great grandchildren; her sisters, Diane Hunt of Schenectady and Deborah Hurd of Saranac; and her brother, Roger (Alice) Hurd of Watertown. Donna was predeceased by her twin brother, Donald Hurd, and brother, David Hurd. A private burial will be held for immediate family only at the Church of the Assumption in Redford, N.Y.
