Donald Gerding Obituary

Donald Gerding passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 14, 2022.

Born on April 18, 1940 in Schenectady, he was the son of the late Carl and Johanna Brennan Gerding. He was a 1958 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School.

Don married his high school sweetheart and soulmate, Elaine (Skeeter) Walker, and they recently observed their 61st anniversary on November 25.

Don was employed at Sears for 35 years in many capacities. He also served in the Air National Guard for six years. He was a member of Carman Fire Department as fire police and was captain for many years, before retiring.

Family always came first for him, as he always loved to teach, guide and support each one as needed. His winning smile made him a friend to all, as well as his gift of gab. He especially loved telling his children and grandchildren stories of the old days. Hunting, fishing, woodworking and sharing his skills were his ways of fun times. As illnesses took over, he graciously accepted every challenge with peace and deep faith, never complaining.

Don was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, James and Charles. Left to mourn this great loss are his wife, Elaine, son Donald (Debbie), daughter Cindy Olson (Scott), grandchildren Morgan Benson (Drew) and Dylan, and also baby great grandson Darius, who he was able to meet before passing.

The family extends sincere gratitude to everyone from Hospice, especially Laura.

Memorial contributions in memory of Don can be made to any animal shelter of your choice.
