Diane Opanowski Stringfellow

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, Diane Opanowski Stringfellow, loving wife and mother of three, passed away at the age of 82 after a long illness.  Diane was born on August 27,1940 in Schenectady, NY to Andrew and Teresa (Sikorski) Opanowski. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1958 and later from the Ellis School of Nursing. On April 24, 1965 she married James Frederick Stringfellow, known as "Fred" to his family and friends. Diane worked as a registered nurse at Ellis Hospital through the mid-1970s and later returned to her chosen field as a school nurse in the Schenectady school system. Diane retired in 1998.

Diane was a lifelong parishioner of the Church of St. Adalbert and a long-time member of Altar Rosary Society. She began singing in the "folk group" at Saturday evening mass in the mid-1980s and later sang in the full choir with her husband for over 20 years. She rarely encountered a charity she wouldn't donate to, especially those that served the cause of abused or endangered animals. She was an avid gardener and always had a wide array of potted plants and fresh flowers thriving in her home.

Diane was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her siblings Wadsworth, Helen (Petrask), and Gerald. She is survived by her children Andrew, Vickie (Michael Chisholm) and Matthew (April), and grandchildren Nathaniel and Maegan.

The family would like to invite those who wish to attend to her viewing at DeLegge Funeral Home from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 28th, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at the Church of St. Adalbert at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery.
