Anthony Buonome, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 11, 2021 at Ellis Hospital after a long illness surrounded by his family. Born in Waterbury, CT on July 7, 1938 to Anna and Dominick Buonome, he grew up in Schenectady and attended Schenectady City Schools, graduating from Nott Terrace High School in 1956. Tony proudly served in the US Army as a combat engineer for two years until being honorably discharged in 1959. He served an apprenticeship as a printer at the Schenectady Union Star prior to working at Clarity Printing and ultimately the Albany Times Union where he retired in 2000 after over 30 years of employment. A parishioner of the former St. Mary’s Church (Schenectady) for many years, Tony was a member of its Holy Name Society as well as a member of the American Legion Post 1002 and The Schenectady Old Timers Baseball Club. In addition, he was a member of the Schenectady Little League for many years where he coached, managed and served as a board member.
Tony married his wife of 60 years, the former Barbara Wilgocki in October 22, 1960. In addition to his wife, Tony is survived by his children, Teresa (Charles) Tessitore, James (Lori) Buonome, his loving granddaughters Caitlin and Marissa Buonome, all of Schenectady and brother Ralph Buonomo (Barbara) of Coatesville, Pa. Additional survivors include many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 15, from 5-7 PM at the DeLegge Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 16, 12:15 PM at the DeLegge Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 PM at St.Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Glenville.
