Rita (Cavanaugh) Diehsner

Rita (Cavanaugh) Diehsner passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, December 29, 2018. She was 81. Rita was born in Schenectady, NY the daughter of Joseph M. and Theresa Cavanaugh. She was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, class of 1955. She reitired after working for thirty-five years at the Schenectady City School District. Rita was a lifelong parishioner and active member of the Church of St. Adalbert. She was also a member of the Ladies of Charity Schenectady Vicariate, and the DDIP Club. For many years she was a supporter of Proctor's Theater, where she often volunteered at the concession stand. Rita's home was the center of many holiday gatherings, and the door was always open for family and friends to just stop by anytime to visit. She very much enjoyed going shopping and spending time with her children, and grandchildren. Her generosity will always be remembered.  She also enjoyed the occasional vacation trips to the coast of Maine or trips to Massachusetts to visit family.

She is predeceased by her parents; her brother;  A. Joseph Cavanaugh; and her son Joseph Diehsner.

Rita is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Richard "Rit" Diehsner, two daughters, Jane Foley-Graeff (Jim) and Anne M. Miralles (Jose'), grandchildren, Kaitlyn Diehsner, Peter Miralles, Margaret Foley, and Grace Miralles, daughter-in-law, Donna Diehsner, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 9:15 a.m. from the DeLegge Funeral Home, thence to the Church of St. Adalbert at 10:00 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.  Interment will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery.

Family and friends are cordially invited to the DeLegge Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.
