Irene Bartkowski Obituary

On December 31, 2018 Irene Bartkowski passed away peacefully at the Wilkinson RHCD in Amsterdam, just two days shy of her 98th birthday.

Irene was married to her husband, Joseph Bartkowski, for 57 years. They were residents of Orchard St. in Schenectady. Joe passed away in 1997.

She was also predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Helena Ruszczyk, and all seven of her siblings.

Irene retired from General Electric Company and was a member of the GE Women’s Club. She was a life-long member of St. Adalbert Church and was an active worker in the kitchen making golumbki and potato pancakes for their Polish festivals and loved polka dancing. In addition, she belonged to the St. Adalbert’s Altar-Rosary Society. Irene also enjoyed the Mont Pleasant Senior Citizens at Mt. Carmel Church and getting together “with the girls.”

However, Irene’s main passion in life was being an animal lover. She had such a big heart to help animals in need and had many pets of her own.

Although Irene had no children, she is survived by 16 nieces and nephews who will always remember her as a fun and generous aunt. She will be greatly missed at birthday parties, holidays and special events.

Calling hours will be held at the DeLegge Funeral Home on Sunday, January 6, from 3 to 5 p.m. with a service to begin at 4:30. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Irene’s memory to Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Glenville, NY, kittenangels.org or St. Adalbert Church, 550 Lansing St., Schenectady, NY.
